You must accept that patients will have to pay for our services if they are seeking private care (self pay).
If we arrange any tests for them, no matter how clinically relevant, we need to make sure that they are aware of the costs of these tests BEFORE they have them, otherwise they might rightfully feel aggrieved.
It doesn't necessarily mean that you have to tell them, but you should have a process whereby someone tells them or they are informed in some way.
I know we don't like talking about money because we are doctors, but we are responsible for their whole experience and it can look dishonest, no matter how well meaning you are being.
