I am all for making New Year's Resolutions, in fact, making resolutions throughout the year, but it is important to focus on 2 things.
1. Thing about ways you want to change your life today, tomorrow or next week, not long term. This takes the focus away from tangible 'things' which probably want bring lasting happiness.
2. You need to compromise. Any change will come with some negative consequence, otherwise you would have done it already. Think about what it will take to achieve the change and decide whether you are willing to accept the compromise
...or not.
